After nearly three years of advocating, today our Kath Manby and the team at VM Family Law stood proud at the unveiling of Orion Springfield’s very own Red Bench.
What is this Red Bench I hear you ask? Well, that is the very question this project and the team behind one of Australia’s leading organisations for the prevention of domestic violence, Red Rose Foundation, wants you to ask! In short, Red Bench is exactly as the name suggests – it is a red bench; placed in a public location it aims to raise awareness of domestic violence and provide an opportunity for this important issue to remain visible in our community.
Whilst there are growing efforts and many achievements around the world and in Australia to end violence against women and girls, domestic and family violence remains the most widespread and pervasive human rights violation worldwide, and it is estimated 1 in 3 women are affected. Initiatives like the Red Bench are the ideas that will start the conversations and start the change, the change that will bring the end to this insidious disease affecting our society.
If you would like to get involved, Red Rose Foundation are asking for local and state government and other community groups to organise a Red Bench. To download the information pack to get started today, visit their website at https://www.redrosefoundation.com.au/red-bench-project
Alternatively, you can make a donation towards a new community Red Bench and help keep the domestic violence conversation active.
